Saturday 4th SEPT '10 Phoenix,and a group of students, are going to this wonderful Show. This very special debut will celebrate new music by eminent composer Chalf Hassan and inspirational choreography by Melanie Norman whose artistry is steadily winning acclaim both in the UK and Cairo. It will also mark the release of The Arab Quarter's first CD which will be on sale. Guest dancers include the hugely popular Khaled Mahmoud, a bright star on the international belly dance scene who is charting a course of rich development; Mercedes Nieto, a formidably talented dancer from Hungary who will enjoy her London premiere and grace the stage with her profound artistry; Shafeek Ibrahim who will add his own unique artistic vitality; and Tracey Jones who will bring a depth of warmth and courage as she makes her stunning return to the world of professional dance. The Arab Quarter Band will include the highly regarded Bashir Abdel Aal on ney, the famous and most sought after Emile Bassili on violin, the talented George Dergham on keyboards, the respected Mazin Abu Sayf on accordion, plus other guest musicians to join the versatile multi-instrumentalist Chalf Hassan on oud, vocals and tabla. Dramatic and powerful poetry narration by actress Kay Francksen.

Sun 19th SEPT '10 Workshop with Melanie Norman from The Arab Quarter at The Place, Euston, London. Melanie says "We will learn a fun and charming choreography to El Touba.  The emphasis will be on understanding modern moves, what the influences are currently in Cairo, and giving some insight into how to chart this path with knowledge.  The day will start with a dance lecture looking at the anatomy of some modern moves, clips of dancers on YouTube, and information that will help people understand what is needed technically to get some of these moves.  This enables me to share the analytical work and subsequent exercises that I have had to implement with my own dance coach in order to be able to put myself on this path. This topic is an extremely interesting one as we witness the complexity of the melting pot of influence that is going on with this fascinating art form." Price is only £40 for a full day workshop, live musician Chalf Hassn, a DVD and writtern notes of the choreography. Phoenix is going, car share available.

Lulu Sabongi – A very welcome return for this very popular teacher. Lulu runs one of the largest Oriental dance schools in Brazil. In 1993 she was the first to release an instructional video in her country, it sold over 20,000 copies.
Lulu is a respected dancer and master teacher in great demand all over the world at international festivals.
Kazafy –has been dancing with the world famous Reda troupe of Egypt for 20 years. After initially training with Mahmoud Reda and Farida Fahmy, he went on to perform with the Reda troupe in dozens of countries worldwide.
